03/05/18   Intertextuality:
  1. The relationship between texts, especially literary ones. E.g using lego sets and props.

    Emmit is the special and they need to put the "piece of resistance' on the Kragle to stop everything getting glued by Lord Business. Some of the messages are teamwork and friendship and having confidence.

    Links to other warner brother films are: Including Batman, superman, Green Ninja, Dumbledore, Gandalf, wonder woman, Green lantern etc.

    Postmodernism
    Films often contain these characteristics:

    They might 'challenge' genres so put lots in rather than only include one, they also might challenge the stereotypes.

    Pastiche: They might include other mimics or have a humorous take on society, like saying how expensive food or drinks are.

    Hyper reality: They could also break reality like the 4th wall.

    This film can be a good example of Postmodernism, Emmet can be seen as the damsel in distress at points in the film, Wyldstyle instead off being week and needing help, is strong and independent. They also do a lot of Pastiche like saying how much coffee is and how everyone just does as they say, a big thing is that they imitate the Matrix. And in the end they see the people who are playing with the lego.

    10/5/18   Target Audience
    There are four types of people who this film is aimed at:
    1. Kids who play with lego.
    It appeals to kids  with the songs and the plot  of good vs evil and the characters such as Batman and Unikitty.
    2. Their parents/guardians who have had lego when they were younger.
    They will get nostalgia from the old sets and some of the actors.
    And also the intertextuality between the matrix and the lego movie.
    3. Young adult cinema goers.
     The actors of this generation e.g Chris Pratt and Will Ferrell. And for the characters like                batman and superman.

21/5/18

Matrix
Locations: Based in a city (simulation) and the 'the real world'.
Characters:
Emmet=Neo
Wyldstyle=Trinity
Lord business= Mr.Smith
Vitruvius=Morphius
Themes/messages: Believing in yourself but don't believe in everything you hear or see and teamwork.
Narrative:
Neo is the one and has to stop the Agents from changing the world.
Emmet is the special and needs to put the lid on the glue to stop lord business from changing the world.
Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the intertextual relationship between the Matrix and The Lego Movie..

The advantages are that kids who watch the Lego Movie will get drawn in by the whimsical characters without knowing about what the moral is, the adults who have seen the Matrix will understand the links to it, also using the catchy song to draw in a bigger audience.
The disadvantages is that the older audience might not enjoy the Lego movie compared to the Matrix as its childish and annoying. Another disadvantage is that the Matrix is complicated and is hard to follow. I think it was an ADVANTAGE
