MOJO Analysis
L/O: to analyse the cover of a mojo magazine, linking it to genre and audience

The mid shot of Dave Grohl makes him look very serious, this reflects how the magazines take what they publish and how the fans feel about MOJO and the music industry.
MOJO have used Dave Grohl in this magazine to show they use older artists as well as the new young artists, in showing someone like him on the front cover it could attract the older target audience and encourage them to pick up a magazine that involves one of the artists of their era.
A majority of the artists involved on the front cover are older and were influential on the 'baby boomer' audience who would have heard these artist as they were growing up, especially Elvis who started in the early 1950's 5 years after ww2.

The sans serif and block capitals that are used on the title for MOJO are used well, they make the title stand out and give the magazine its own look, these also reflect on the things that they report and review in their magazines, the curved edges on the title could show that they show the smooth side of music and the block capitals show they also show the heavier and stand out side of music like heavy metal and rock. Minor lines o the magazine give previews to what we will be seeing later on in the magazine and for the older audience shows the artists and bands they love and know from since they were little such as Lou Reed. MOJO use the block capitals a lot on the main cover to make the titles stand out and make them easy to read.

The red circle that shows the reviews is paced underneath the title and in ed which pops out and makes it obvious that MOJO have a high viewership. The free cd in the magazine includes song from the 'american underground scene' which means the songs included are made by artist that aren't as well known and are recommended for the audience who buy and read MOJO and like the music that MOJO review. Text around the main image is placed in a way as to not cover the main focus of the front cover which is Dave Grohl and his generation of artists and bands.

DIRT

When you analyse typography, look at connotations and link to the TA.

In the magazine, Mojo use bold fonts and bright colours to connote that they are bold with what they right and the things they right about are new and entertaining so people will be inclined to buy the magazine. And for the audience who already buy this magazine and read it they know that there are new stores to read about.

Representation
L/O to explore the concept of representation in music magazines   1-11-18

Stereotypes
Teenagers- Lazy and always angry or upset,  rude and arrogant
Men-Drink beer and are quite fat and hairy, they are seen to be any and to not do much work around the house, stronger than women
Americans-Fat, support baseball or basketball teams, very big food, have guns
Lesbians-Colourful hair that is short, tattoos and male-like features, hate men.

Guitar- Shows his passion and what he's famous for

Tattoos- Tattoos are a form of art, this shows he is creative and artistic.

Hair and clothes- Simple black top and 'messy hair' shows he isn't fussed about appearance and doesn't care about expensive clothes

Expression- Smile, shows he is happy and an upbeat kind of person.

Foo fighters were formed after Nirvana ended, they are/were a rock band, in their 7th album it seemed they became more of a post-grunge band

Age = Relatively young, 25 years old
Gender = Male
Ethnicity = African american
Genre = Rap
Personality = Looks serious
Genre stereotypes = Mostly back males who rap in an angry manor and 'showboat' their jewellery and money.

In this photo Chance is looking serious, and half his face is covered by a shadow, which could say he has a dark side. Also having a beard and moustache shows he is kind of old and also shows he is masculine.

Music Videos

L/O: to research chosen case studies and how they are represented

Concept: The most common form of music video is Performance / Narrative. This is a video that shows a performance be the band / artist / but also has a narrative within it.

Performance: performance based video shows the artist /band /group performance throughout the song and sometimes can play throughout the whole video.

Media language in music videos

L/O: to explore the use of Media Language in Music videos.         22/11/18

Michael Jackson - Black or White
This music video is about racism, and how we are equal. Michael was born with vitiligo so over time his skin colour changed as he used to bleach it, this was obviously him asking people to also see him as the same person.

London - Aj x Deno ft EO
This song has 2 features which is helpful so these new artists can make it big and make money and eventually also feature other artists.

Media language in music videos

L/O: to explore the use of Media Language in Music videos.         29/11/18

Case 3

Narrative = Little mix
Performance = Vamps

.The Vamps - Somebody to you
.In this music video the artists perform to the girls that come to their party and to the camera
.The video does look very natural and the make up and clothes used fit the genre and video setting
.This video follows genre conventions by using a bright sunny setting, involving the key instruments, dressing them in casual yet effective clothes.
.No there is not and diegetic sound
.The editing does match the pace of the song, and stays the same throughout. No special effects are used and the only transitions used are dissolves and wipes.
.The camerawork is linear
.The camera is a mixture of smooth and handheld to make it seem realistic
.Yes it is saturated
.It promotes going out and having fun with your mates and mingling with new people
.It follows it by dressing them in summer time clothes as they are in  a beach which links with summer

Little Mix - Black Magic
.Yes to the camera
.No because they are using magic
.By using a colour palette that is bright and colourful which connotes happiness
.No
.Yes, yes it does change between them, special effects are used constantly throughout the video, wipe and dissolves are used
.It is linear and bits are a montage
.It is hand held and quite smooth to make the video seem realistic
.The video is saturated
.It promotes happiness and that being rude and mean to people isn't a good thing as eventually you will get karma
.In the video the girls are sexualised because they are wearing lots of make-up, crop tops and short skirts

Representation in music videos              3/12/18
L/o: to analyse representation in music videos

In this scene the girls are sexualised as they are dressed in short skirts, low cut tops and high heels.
They are also wearing lots of make up to make them look better then before they transform

Before they transform they are dressed in 'nerd' type outfits. They have glasses, no make up and are covered up compared to how they are at the end.
One of them is carrying their books i their arms which links to stereotypical american schools where nerd carry round their books and get them smacked out of their arms by a bully like shown in the video.
1) They are all heterosexual females
2) To go out with your mates and socialise and make friends and do things you wouldn't usually do
3) That everyone is equal
4) Their gender and age is represented by showing them being 14-18 and falling in love.
5) Disability isn't shown within the video
6) The stereotypes used is that girls are extremely sexualised but that you are allowed to dress however you want.
7) The artists are shown as young girls who are in love and that should wear revealing stuff to get boys attention
8) Their society is represented as a stereotypical school that there is a boy that is with the wrong girl who is mean to the other 'unpopular' females.
9) Girls who wear lots of makeup and wear revealing clothes are shown as attractive
10) The main message being sent out is that bullying is not okay and that if you want something you should pursue it

In the video they are dressed i tank tops or short sleeved t shirts with shorts, this gives off a summer vibe and getting tans. These can also be used to show off muscle.
These gives off the impression that the guys are showing themselves off to the girls to get their attention

The girls are extremely sexualised in this video as they are dressed in very revealing clothes such as cropped tops and short shorts and bathing suits .
This is yet again used to make to make them look sexualised toward the men and to give off that they are trying to get their attention.

1) That they are all heterosexual
2) That you should go out and enjoy the sun and that you should go out wth your mates and meet new people
3) That everyone is equal
4) Their gender and age is represented by showing them being 14-18 and falling in love.
5) Disability isn't shown in the video
6) That in the sun boys wear shorts and t shirts and that girls can wear revealing clothes to get a tan
7) Energetic and sporty
8) That all guys in the UK like football
9) That slicked back hair and revealing clothes are attractive
10) That when going out you should be confident and comfortable

L/O: to review representation of videos and practise exam style question                    13/12/18
Similarities
- Similar primary colours
- The costumes and props are based on location
- In both they perform to the camera, the shots generate pace to match the song,
- The intertextuality lies on the location and relates to beach party and high schools.
- Both show being straight as normal
- Always seen in a group

Differences:
- The Vamps is party and play apposed to going to school
- Little max uses Cgi whereas Vamps use just shots
- The Vamps gives off an edgier feel
- Little mix is looser
- The Vamps shows the male gaze and that women are shows as objects
- That The Little Mix are only interested in looking good for the boys attention

Explain ONE way in which music videos use media language differ from each other.
Refer to ONE example of contrasting media language in TWO music videos you have studied to support your answer.

The music videos 'Somebody To You' and 'Black Magic' differ from each other in many ways.

The music video uses camerawork to differ from the other, this is shown in many scenes such as in 'black magic' when they are in the room together performing the spells they use CGI to show the magic where as is the whole of 'somebody to you' there isn't any CGI and the whole video is based on shots, in my opinion the 'somebody to you' looks better as it doesn't use CGI. As well as the CGI the two are different as 'Black magic' shows the girls going to school whereas the 'Somebody to you' video shows the boys as being party and play.

As a conclusion these two videos are very different in camerawork but are both aimed at the same audience

BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge
L/O: to research the radio industry and BBC Radio 1

BBC operates 10 different stations with a wide range of content, from pop to rock to classical to new artists, with 40 regional radio stations and a funding by a licence fee which is charged to all British households, companies, and organisations using any type of equipment to receive or record live television. The main competition to PSB radio is commercial radio stations

5 different commercial radio stations are, Premiers radio, Radio X, Smooth Extra, Sunrise radio and Heart radio. Ways people can listen to BBC Radio 1 is, online, in a car radio or on a household radio

BBC Radio 1                                                   14-1-19
L/O: To explore how BBC Radio 1 meets its PSB remit and meets the needs of its target audience

Public Service Broadcast: Delivering trusted news, UK-originated programmes and distinctive content. This means that it is only broadcasted to entertain and inform not to make money.

Radio 1: Radio 1 is aimed at 16-29 year olds, so they adjust their music, presenters, and whats in their playlists so the age group enjoy the music and enjoy the feel. They will keep the presenters in the same age group so they have a common ground and so the presenters know what language to use and reference pop culture that the 16-29 year olds will understand and enjoy hearing and relating to.

Remit of Radio 1
. They have to entertain and engage a wide range of young listeners
. The TA is 16-29 year olds
. Support new artists and music especially from the uk
. And provide a platform for live music

How does Radio 1 meet their remit?
Engaging with their listeners:
They put modern music on there by todays top artists and put their new music in mix playlists.
Supporting new artists:
They have their own section for new artists containing several artists and their styles, this gives them a 'foot in the door' so they can progress in their career.
A platform for live music:
They also gave a section for live music, live lounge and live sessions

Convergence:
The merging of previously distinct media technologies and media forms due to digitization and computer networking

What advantage is there for (1)the BBC (2)Vevo or (3) the audience?

1) The BBC gets larger audience and publicity and get new audience through Vevo.
2) Vevo get higher recognition and gain money, they also get BBC audience.
3) The audience gain another platform to enjoy their music, there is no time limit.

Radio Online:
.Interactive participation
.Exclusive content
.They use webcams so its not just their voices
.They decide whats in it

Regulation               16/01/19
L/O: To explore how the BBC is regulated
Ofcom regulates radio and TV to determine if the broadcasting code.
Ofcom makes sure all the codes are kept and that no companies breach it.

Plurality: Preventing any one media owner or voice having too much influence over public opinion and the political agenda.
To make sure no one is offended and that it includes everyone and makes sure everyone can keep their own beliefs.

Appropriate scheduling would be showing different shows at different times to make sure children don't watch inappropriate content.

Whats it about: Classical music
How will it run: 5 days a week
What will it include: classical music and Q and A's
Where would it be broadcasted from: Spain and France
What restrictions would you need to be aware of: The mid-day rules that say it must be family friendly so it doesn't effect growth.
Who is the TA: 45-70 year olds
What time would it be broad casted from: 9am-3pm as the TA usually get up quite early and we don't want it to go on al day.
How can you target your demographic and why: We would do this by running it in areas where most older people lived, therefore they would hear about it and have a station to listen to all day.
Advertising: We would get the main pirate FM to mention it every so often.
Content: We would play music that their generation would listen to and enjoy.

I chose the design as the design links to the name, the yellow looks like the sun or a light which connotes to happiness and means we give light on new upcoming artists in this genre.
